Centered in the heart of Copenhagen sits the Amalienborg Palace, one of the oldest monarchies in the world. This place is a must-see for history buffs and is located just 15 minutes from Nyhavn by foot. The Palace is known for the Royal Life Guard, which changes every day at noon, and the guards walk the streets of the city, usually accompanied by music.

The Marble Church
Frederiksgade 4,
1265 Copenhagen
55.684842, 12.590098
the largest dome in Scandinavia
A few meters down from the Amalienborg Palace is the city’s most striking church, The Marble Church. Also known as Frederik’s Church, this building has stood the test of time and prevailed gracefully! It was originally planned in the 1770s, but the project was incomplete all through the late 1800s because the original architect had died. It was finally opened in 1945 and stands as one of Copenhagen’s finest landmarks. Now, it is an extremely popular church to get married in Copenhagen, so chiming bells on Fridays and Sundays are not a rare occurrence.
Fun fact: The Marble Church isn’t actually made of marble! Due to budgeting issues, limestone blocks were used as alternatives. However, no one will notice the difference in the stunning photos you’ll take.
Kastellet
Gl. Hovedvagt, Kastellet 1,
2100 Copenhagen
55.689019, 12.597371
one of the best preserved fortresses in Northern Europe
Kastellet is one of Copenhagen’s quietest spots, located 10 minutes from the Marble Church! The area is very well preserved with perfectly manicured lawns and features a fountain, a citadel, and a rustic windmill. A few minutes away from Kastellet is a widely popular attraction: the Little Mermaid statue, inspired by the author Hans Christian Andersen. However, this particular spot is typically crowded with tourists, so you won’t get enough privacy. Most people want to take a photo in front of the statue, so you’ll be required to queue; if you’re on a strict time schedule, it would be best to leave it for another time.
Your wedding pictures can look fantastic at Kastellet, especially if you visit in April, since you can see the Japanese cherry blossoms in full bloom! You can also visit Langeline Park to witness the trees in their best display.
The King’s Garden
Øster Voldgade 4A,
1307 Copenhagen
55.682842, 12.580736
the oldest and most visited park in central Copenhagen
The Rosenborg, or King’s Garden, is one of the oldest royal gardens in Denmark. It was laid out right next to Rosenborg Castle in the 1600s and has become one of Copenhagen’s most beautiful green spaces. There’s so much greenery—bushes, rosegardens, flowerbeds, you name it! Both the garden and castle, which are 20 minutes from the Marble Church, can be used as backdrops for your photos.
There are two cafes inside the heart of the park. It would be fun to celebrate there after your wedding ceremony is done!
The Botanical Garden
Gothersgade 128,
1223 Copenhagen
55.684720, 12.573432
the largest collections of living plants in Denmark
Speaking of spectacular gardens, The Botanical Garden has the biggest collection of various plants, spread over 10 hectares of land. Normally, there’s a lot of greenery going around, but there is a serene lake as well—an ideal backdrop for your photos. Entry to the Botanical Garden is free of charge, however, tickets for the Butterfly and Tropical House have to be bought for a small fee.
The location of the garden is perfect; it is centrally situated, only 5 minutes away from the King’s Garden. If you want to take photos at multiple locations, this should definitely be added to your list!
Frederiksberg Gardens
Frederiksberg Have,
2000 Frederiksberg
55.674853, 12.531585
a romantic landscape garden designed in the English style
Finishing off our list of wedding photo places in Copenhagen is the marvellous Frederiksberg Park. While its location may be a bit far from the local attractions, it is perfect for engaged couples who want to elope in the city! For instance, if you’re getting married in Frederiksberg City Hall, the park is just 5 minutes away. Additionally, there are so many spots in the actual park where you can continue your celebration and be photographed at the same time! All in all, I ensure you will have an enchanting time surrounded by the wonders of nature.
It would be a crime not to mention the small canals and lakes where you can take a boat ride, as well as the many bridges and a Chinese temple where you could have spectacular images taken!
